Take That & Party ....
As we sat on the roof top over looking the fair city on a beautiful summers evening with some white wine. I gazed over to the to the home of GAA games Croke Park . For those of you unfamiliar with this majestic stadium it is filled with a tremendous amount of history. During the 1916 Easter Rising an All Ireland football final was being played when the game was interupted by introduction of British thanks & soldiers killing several hundred fans & players so it´s fair to say Croke Park has seen it all , or had it ???
It has hosted major sporting events & maybe 15 years ago opened it´s gates to the music lovers of this Isle. Massive names in the history of music have played there , Gareth Brooks , Rod Stewart ,Bon Jovi , Robbie Williams & so on , but I must not forget Dublins very own U2. They have graced the famous stadium on numerious occasions & each time they get better & better . But on this lovely evening Croke Park would open it´s gates to 100,000 screaming Take That fans !!!
Thats a scary thing trust me !!! I was a bit unsure what to make on my way to the concert ! I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy the gig ? , would take that be any good live ? I had so many questions going round in my head.
When we finally made it to our seat up 14 flights of stairs we were quite thirsty so first stop , "The Bar" now we are talking, I was not going to a Take That concert with out having a couple of beers :) I think Lisa felt very light headed when we sat down & that had nothing to do with the bottle of wine she just had, it was the shire hight we were up in the stadium.
One part of the concert I was looking forward to was seeing another Irish band play their first gig in Croke Park was The Script , & boy oh boy did they not let the 70,000 fans who came early to see the warm up act. They were so good I think people wanted them to stay on & play instead of Take That. By the end of the Script's set they walked off the Croke Park stage ( which cost a staggering €10 Million to be put up) on cloud 9 . They will be very very big trust me. So time for the main event Take That. I said to myself how will they top what the Script just produced ???
Little did I know what was going to unfold in front of my eyes over the next 2 & a half hours ....
The Take That tour is called The Circus & thats exactly what it is, a circus !!! Loads of clowns , jugglers , fire acts , acrobats , tight rope walkers , and a massive elephant & so on . When they finally hit the stage the place errupted with a noise which I cant explain !!! 100,000 girls going absolutly bonkers about these 4 lads from Manchester on the stage. Crazy when you think about it !!! The show got better & better as the night went on with them playing all there old stuff from the early 90's. There was a little bit of jealously on mybehalf I must admit ... Gary Barlow was left all on his own on the stage with a piano & played some classic old Take That love songs to the massive crazy crowd, I said to myself " what a lucky bastard" . The rest of the lads joined him again to sing some more of there new material & the show just seemed to be getting bigger & bigger with every song they sang. They finished the night singing Rule The World the theme song for the movie Stardust & be to honest they ruled the world for the 2 hours or so they were on the stage... There was a fire works display during the last song which is something which will live long in everybodys memory . A picture esque ending to a breath taking show ....
God natt sov gott
